From Feeling Worthless To Knowing That Her Life Is “Going To Be Amazing”
“Personal development is the belief that you are worth the effort, time and energy needed to develop yourself.”
Borrow My Faith In You To Get Started
Personal growth is a journey. And you are absolutely worth investing in.
I believe that with all my heart. But do you?
In the end, it’s much more important that you believe in yourself than what I or anyone else thinks about you. Henry Ford says, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.“
Now, if you struggle to believe that you’re worth the time and effort to invest in yourself, how do you overcome that negative self-image?
For starters, you can borrow my belief in you. You see, sometimes we simply don’t have the courage to believe in ourselves and we simply can’t get started because we don’t see our potential.
Having someone to have faith in us can change everything. Literally.
My mentor, Mark Cole, CEO of all seven John Maxwell companies says that most people don’t have anyone to believe in them.
So if you don’t have anyone to believe in you, I want to tell you today that I have faith in you. You’re worth investing in.
And I want to share an interview with one woman, Carol (name changed to protect privacy), of how she is transforming her own life.
She may have borrowed my faith in her in the beginning BUT she is now believing in herself and she’s excited about her life!
Q: Where were you before you started coaching and what did that feel like?
“I came from a home where I learned that women were worthless and I lived within a marriage for twenty-three years where I was belittled, controlled, manipulated and blackmailed.
And then outside of my marriage, I had my mom diagnosed with dementia and she was put into a nursing home in January 2017. My dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and put into the home the same year in July. I had left my husband in June of that same year.
So, in one fell swoop, I lost an extreme piece of me. And I felt like everything was spiralling and spinning.
So by the time I called you in July of that year, I felt that there was nothing left… that I was just messed up, broken, damaged, shattered and lost.”
“It’s amazing in the power of what you can go through and survive and come out better on the other side.”
Q: What has been the most impactful thing about coaching for you?
“It basically started out as somewhere to go with everything spiralling and spinning out of control. A place to talk. It slowly progressed from there and became the place where I was able to process things and work through things.
It’s always about moving forward… being able to move to the next step or the next stage… or be able to work through things to eliminate them to leave them behind. To shed everything that wasn’t meant to be there and just the encouragement and motivation and sometimes the pushing forward.
I’ve learned so much through it about who I am. I learned so many different things… I now get to a point where something comes up and I’m trying to make a decision, I start doing a pros and cons list of what’s the good and what’s the bad and how do I feel and all of this because it was learned through coaching.
And just some amazing… You being God’s hands and feet through it. Showing me so much and being there and helping me walk through the good, the bad and the ugly.”
Q: What is the thing that you’ve learned the most about yourself?
“The biggest takeaway on what I’ve learned about myself has been what I’ve known all along but I’ve learned to wear it and claim it… is who I am in Christ.
That’s been such a huge walk in this past year and a half and that’s what God’s been taking me through and what we’ve been working through.
Again, even just tonight… learning who I am. That I’m not lesser of a person just because I’m different. There’s been a lot wrapped around that and a building in confidence in who I am in Christ and who I am as a woman and any other roles I’m in.”
Q: So what now? Where are we going next in coaching?
“I find it’s continuing to move in… what’s the next step, what’s going to be the next goal, the next phase.
This period has been about healing and resting and just rejuvenating and I know that I’m coming to the end of that. I’m still not one hundred percent sure what’s on the other side of that but I know that it’s going to be amazing on the front of where God’s taking me.
Because one of the things that he had promised to me back almost two years ago, back when all there was was tears, was there was going to be laughter again where your tears fall. And I’m starting to see that and see the joys and just moving forward with an expectation that God has it in control and I’m just to walk with Him and enjoy the ride.
So, you’re going to continue to push me and move me forward and to encourage and this is how it’s going to be… it’s going to be amazing. He just hasn’t placed what that amazing is yet.”
Q: If a woman was on the fence about coaching or she wasn’t sure if coaching was for her, what would you say?
“You need to want it. It has to be something you want. If you have a desire to get out of where you’re at and to be able to find a better path with God… there’s just so many things.
Coaching is just… for me, it’s been amazing. It’s been about helping me align everything together, to work things together, to move forward and to grow and to stretch and to learn. Just so much.
If you’re kind of standing there at the edge of the cliff going, “Should I, should I not…” it’s definitely a “should” because you open yourself up to a whole new world in growth and in moving forward in what God wants for you and having somebody there that’s going to help you work through that.
It just becomes an amazing journey.”
